Mathematical Gazetteer of the British Isles


The church of St Laurence, by the Market Place in Reading, has a monument to John Blagrave (1558?-1611), a general mathematical practitioner of his time, author and deviser of instruments, including The Mathematical Jewel, an improved astrolabe. [1]
The monument shows him with quadrant and globe.
This church is open only a few times per week: Sun 9:30-11:00; Wed 12:30-1:30; Thu 9:45-10:30; Fri 12:30-1:30.
