Shrewsbury, Shropshire

Mathematical Gazetteer of the British Isles


Edward Waring (1736-1798) was born near Shrewsbury [1] and died at nearby Plealy.

Charles Darwin (1809-1882), the naturalist and ancestor of several mathematicians, was born at The Mount in Shrewsbury. He lived there until 1825 and frequently returned until the house was sold in 1842. He attended Shrewsbury School. There is a statue of him outside the public library and also at the school. [2]
