DR WILLIAM PEDDIE DEAD
Former Professor at University College, Dundee.

The death occurred at his residence in Dundee yesterday of Dr William Peddie, D.Sc., LL.D., F.R.S.E. who, from 1907 until his retirement in 1942, occupied the Harris Chair of Physics at University College, Dundee. Born in the island of Papa Westray 85 years ago, he was a son of the Free Church minister there. He graduated B.Sc. at Edinburgh University in 1888, and in 1892 he was appointed lecturer in Natural Philosophy in Edinburgh University. He succeeded Professor J P Kuenan at Dundee. Dr Peddie was an active worker, both as lecturer and in research, frequently contributing to the Transactions of the Royal Society of Edinburgh, of which he was a Fellow, and to the proceedings of Edinburgh Mathematical Society. His researches were mainly in the fields of colour vision and molecular magnetism.

William Peddie died on Sunday 2 June 1946 and The Scotsman printed this short obituary on the following day.
