The Edinburgh Mathematical Society held its third St Andrews Colloquium after World War II in St Andrews from 8 to 18 July 1959.

**The Lecturers of the St Andrews Mathematical Colloquium, 1959.**

The following gave lecture courses:

**(a)**Professor H S M (Donald) Coxeter (Toronto) - "Symmetry."

**(b)**Professor Vincenzo C A Ferraro (London) - "Magnetohydrodynamics."

**(c)**Professor Cornelius Lanczos (Dublin) - "Linear operators and function spaces."

**(d)**Dr Alexander P Robertson (Glasgow) - "Spectra of linear operators."

**(e)**Dr Robert Schlapp (Edinburgh) - "Newton and some Scottish contemporaries."

Under the auspices of the Edinburgh Mathematical Society it is proposed to hold a Colloquium in University Hall, St Andrews, from 8th July to 18th July 1959. The Colloquium will be on similar lines to those held in St Andrews in 1951 and 1955. Prof H S M Coxeter (Toronto), Prof V C A Ferraro (London), Prof C Lanczos (Dublin), Dr A P Robertson (Glasgow) and Dr R Schlapp (Edinburgh) have kindly consented to deliver short courses of lectures. In addition, there will probably be a number of single lectures, informal talks and discussions. The inclusive membership fee is £2.5.0 per person, of which 10/- is payable as a registration fee when application is made. The cost of board and lodging in University Residence Halls for the period of the Colloquium (dinner on 8th July to breakfast on 18th July) will be £10.15.0 per person, inclusive of gratuities. A successful and enjoyable Colloquium was held in St Andrews from July 8 to July 18, 1959, under the auspices of the Edinburgh Mathematical Society, and was attended by about 80 members. Courses of lectures were given by Prof H S M Coxeter (Symmetry), Prof V C A Ferraro (Magnetohydrodynamics), Prof C. Lanczos (Linear operators and function spaces); Dr. A. P. Robertson (Spectra of linear operators), and Dr. R. Schlapp (Newton and some Scottish contemporaries).
