BMC General Meeting Cardiff

Minutes for the General Meeting of the British Mathematical Colloquium,
Tuesday 31st March 2026, from 1330, at the Cardiff BMC


  1. Attendance and apologies

    The meeting was held immediately prior to the London Mathematical Society Meeting and was attended by approximately 30 attendees of the BMC and members of the Scientific Committee. Apologies had been received from Murat Akman (Essex) and Sophie Huczynska (St Andrews).

  2. Minutes of the previous meeting

    The minutes of the previous General Meeting held at the Exeter BMC-BAMC on Wednesday 25th June 2025 were presented and accepted.

  3. Introduction

    The Chair of the Scientific Committee, Jan Grabowski, introduced himself and explained the purpose of the General meeting. The Scientific Committee was also introduced to those present. Thanks were given to Gandhar Joshi (Open) who had been the attendee representative for the Exeter BMC-BAMC.

  4. BMC Attendee Representative at the Scientific Committee

    The Chair invited volunteers to attend the meeting of the Scientific Committee in Autumn 2026, to provide attendee feedback on the Cardiff BMC.

  5. Future meetings of the BMC

    Attendees were informed that the next BMC would be held in Birmingham, from 28th June-1st July 2027.
    The plenary speakers will be
    • Noga Alon (Princeton, Tel Aviv)
    • Emmanuel Breuillard (Oxford)
    • Kevin Buzzard (Imperial)
    • Laure Saint-Raymond (IHES)
    • Hong Wang (IHES, New York)
    The public lecture will be given on 29th June (speaker to be announced) and the conference dinner on 30th June.

    The workshops will be in Algebra, Analysis, Combinatorics, Geometry and Mathematical Physics, Partial Differential Equations and AI & Mathematics.

    Via video message, Murat Akman invited the BMC to visit Essex in 2028.

    The Chair encouraged participants wishing to receive emails about future BMCs to subscribe to the JISCMail list bmc@jiscmail.ac.uk, via the JISCMail website.

  6. Thanks to the organisers of the Cardiff BMC

    The Chair invited attendees to show their appreciation of the Organising Committee of the Cardiff BMC, along with all who had contributed to the event:

The meeting closed at approximately 1340.
