Shmuel Agmon was born to Jewish parents and spent most of his life in Israel. He did outstanding work on the theory of partial differential equations of elliptic type and on spectral and scattering theory of Schrödinger operations. He received several prises including the Rothschild Prize, the Israel Prize, and the EMET Prize.
