María Esteban is Basque born but has spent most of her career in Paris. She has make (and continues to make) outstanding contributions to mathematical models applied to physics, quantum mechanics, and chemistry. Among many leading administrative roles, she has been president of the International Council for Industrial and Applied Mathematics.
