Meeting of 12 May 1899

Location: Edinburgh Institution, Edinburgh

Chair: Morgan, Alexander

Elected:
Watson, Thomas P

George Alexander Gibson initiated a discussion on the treatment of proportion in elementary mathematics, and most of the members present took part. It was agreed that in the teaching of elementary geometry, ratio and proportion should be treated more from an arithmetical point of view. A sub-committee "should be appointed to co-operate with Professor Gibson in further considering the matter, and to report".
