We suggest that the N/A against George and Paul on the 1930 Census is because they are naturalised American citizens by parentage after their father became an American citizen on 20 June 1929 (see below).

Sandor Halmos (George Charles Halmos) arrives on 11 March 1924. He sails from Cherbourg, France, to New York on the ship "Aquitania". He gives his occupation as physician, his nearest relative is his father Isor Halmos living in Budapest, and his destination is 5001 Capital Avenue, Omaha, Nebraska. On the 19 March 1924 at Omaha, Nebraska, he declares his intent to become a US citizen under the name Alexander Charles Halmos. The declaration contains the following details: complexion, dark; height, 5 ft 9 in; weight, 160 lbs; colour of hair, dark brown; colour of eyes, brown.

Alexander Charles Halmos becomes an American citizen on 20 June 1929. His Petition for Naturalization contains the following information. He gives his date of birth as 19 January 1881, and his address as 646 Fullerton Parkway, Chicago, Illinois. He moved from Omaha, Nebraska, to Chicago, Illinois on 3 October 1924. He is now married to Irene, born on 22 April 1895 in Hungary, who now resides with him. He has 3 children:

Paul, born 3 March 1914 in Hungary, resides in Hungary.

Georg Halmos arrived on the ship "Dresden" departing from Bremen on 22 March 1928 and arriving in New York on 2 April 1928. His given name appears as Georg (Gyorgy). His age is given as 20, then corrected to 19. His occupation is dentist. He was detained as an alien "held for special enquiry" at 2:45 on 2 April, the cause for detention being given as "Hungarian Hebrew Quota". He was given 2 breakfasts, 2 suppers, but no dinner. He was admitted to the United States at 10:20 on 4 April.

Johann Halmos arrived on the ship "Dresden" departing from Bremen on 22 March 1928 and arriving in New York on 2 April 1928. His given name appears as Johann (Janos). His age is given as 17, then corrected to 16. His occupation is student. He was detained as an alien "held for special enquiry" at 2:45 on 2 April, the cause for detention being given as "Hungarian Hebrew Quota". He was given 2 breakfasts, 2 suppers, but no dinner. He was admitted to the United States at 10:20 on 4 April.

George Halmos enters the United States on 28 June 1929 at Detroit coming from Windsor, Ontario, Canada. He is travelling alone. He gives his age as 20 years, 11 months, 29 days. His occupation is given as student. He is 5 ft 8 in, complexion dark, dark brown hair, brown eyes. His nearest relative is his father Dr Alexander Halmos at 646 Fullerton Parkway, Chicago, Illinois.

John Halmos enters the United States on 28 August 1929 at Detroit coming from Windsor, Ontario, Canada. He is travelling alone. He gives his age as 18 years, 4 months. His occupation is given as student. He is 6 ft 2 in, fair complexion, black hair, brown eyes. His nearest relative is his father Mr A Halmos at 646 Fullerton Parkway, Chicago, Illinois.

Paul Halmos arrived in New York on the ship "Mauretania" from Cherbourg on 24 August 1929. He is only 13 years old and is travelling with his cousin Max Kiraly, a physician. His occupation is given as student.

Paul Halmos arrived on 5 September 1931 in New York on the ship "Bremen" from Bremen leaving on 30 August 1931. He gives his age as 17 (he is actually only 15 unless his date of birth his father gave in 1929 is correct). He seems to be travelling alone.

Paul Halmos arrived on 2 September 1932 in New York on the ship "Berebgaria" from Cherbourg. He gives his age as 18. He seems to be travelling alone.
