Hart House Chapel, the University of Toronto, was the scene of the wedding of Miss Ann Laurel Hutt, daughter of Mrs Donald George Hutt of Ottawa and Mr James Ray Vanstone, son of Mr and Mrs H V Vanstone of Toronto, Saturday morning at 11 o'clock.

Rev James Cunningham performed the ceremony. The bride was given in marriage by her mother. Mrs Douglas McLean attended her sister and Mt Carl Templin was best man.

For her wedding the bride chose a gown of eggshell lace and tulle over taffeta styled with bouffant skirt of eggshell lace over pink tulle appliqued and matching lace and ending in a chapel train. The round neckline was trimmed with hand-embroidered French lace.

A tiara of mother of pearl flowers and leaves held her veil of eggshell illusion and she carried a cascade bouquet of pink roses and feathered white carnations.

Following a reception at the Park Plaza Hotel, the couple left on a honeymoon trip to the Muskoka district. On their return they will reside at 9 Harbord Street in Toronto, where Mr Vanstone is studying for a postgraduate degree in mathematics.

For travelling the bride wore a cornflower blue wool dress styled on princess lines, a blonde fur jacket, rust accessories and a corsage bouquet of bronze chrysanthemums.

Out of town guests included Mr and Mrs J E Beckett, Mr and Mrs E Beckett, Ottawa; Mrs Douglas McLean, Fredericton, NB; Mr and Mrs A E Rankin, Buffalo; Mr and Mrs E L Vanstone, Owen Sound; Mr and Mrs W L Oliver, Montreal and Mr and Mrs T R Gibb, Port Credit.

ANN LAUREL VANSTONE (née HUTT) March 12, 1935 - May 24, 2012

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ann Vanstone, surrounded by her four children. Predeceased by her beloved husband of 46 years, Ray Vanstone and her sister, Donni McLean. Ann was the much loved mother of Jonathan (Nancy Vanstone), Brenda (Marc Sabourin), Rod (Birgitt Vanstone) and Kirsten (Michael Boadway). Adored grandmother of Nicholas, Kayla, Michael, Christian, Arielle, Peter and Julia, Ann will also be forever missed by her cherished nieces and nephews. Ann graduated from Glebe Collegiate in Ottawa and the University of Toronto, University College . Ann and Ray travelled extensively and lived in such places as California, South Africa, Australia and Florida, but home was Toronto and Haliburton. Ann was passionate about public education and had a long and distinguished political career. She was a trustee and Chair of the former Toronto Board of Education and Chair of the former Metropolitan Toronto School Board. She co-chaired the provincial Education Improvement Commission and the Effective Schools Task Force, both of which are credited with significant improvements to educational quality in Ontario. She was appointed to the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario and was a consultant with Enerlife Consulting. Ann forged deep and lasting friendships in both her personal and professional life. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Canadian Federation of University Women North Toronto Scholarship Fund or the Toronto Educational Opportunities Fund. Friends may call at the Morley Bedford Funeral Home, 159 Eglinton Ave. West (2 lights west of Yonge St.), on Thursday, May 31st from 7-9 p.m. A memorial service will be held at the Faculty Club at the University of Toronto, 41 Willcocks St. (east of Spadina Ave.), on Friday, June 1st at 2:30 p.m. Interment at St. Peter's Cemetery in Haliburton.
