Mathematical Gazetteer of the British Isles

John Playfair (1748-1819) and William Playfair (1759-1823) were born at Benvie. John became professor of mathematics, and later natural philosophy, at Edinburgh, and was well-known as a geologist. William originated the ideas of time series charts and pie charts.
