Daresbury, Cheshire

Mathematical Gazetteer of the British Isles

The father of Charles Lutwidge Dodgson (Lewis Carroll, 1832-1898) was vicar at All Saints, Daresbury. Carroll was born at the Old Parsonage, Morphany Lane, Newton-by-Daresbury, and lived there until 1843. The house burned down in 1883. Only the gateposts remain. Another source says the site, on Glebe Farm, has a pillar and a plaque. There is a commemorative window in the church, and a 'Wonderland' weathervane, showing the Mad Hatter, the White Rabbit and Alice, on the local primary school.
