Miss Christine Mary Hamill, who died on Saturday at Ibadan, Nigeria, at the early age of 32, from poliomyelitis after two days' illness, was lecturer in mathematics in the university there. Her special interest was in geometry.

The younger daughter of Philip Hamill, M.D., F.R.C.P., she was born on July 24, 1923. She was educated at St. Paul's Girls' School, of which she was a foundation scholar, and at the Perse School, Cambridge. She entered Newnham College with a scholarship in 1942 and obtained First Class in the Mathematical Tripos. After holding a research studentship she was elected a Junior Fellow of Newnham. Later she was appointed to a lectureship in the University of Sheffield and in 1954 was appointed lecturer in University College, Ibadan. She had published several papers in the field of geometry.

Apart from her academic work she had wide interests, was a keen dinghy sailor and took an active part in youth welfare. She was to have been married in July.
