Mathematicians Of The Day

23rd May

On this day in 1576, Tycho Brahe was given use of the island of Hven (now Ven in Sweden) for his astronomical observatory. He built two observatories: Uraniborg and Stjerneborg.

The postage stamp of one of today's mathematicians at THIS LINK was issued in 2008.

Quotation of the day

From John F Nash
I would not dare to say that there is a direct relation between mathematics and madness, but there is no doubt that great mathematicians suffer from maniacal characteristics, delirium and symptoms of schizophrenia.
