The Argentina Mathematical Union
Founded in 1936
The Argentina Mathematical Union (Unión Matemática Argentina) was founded in 1936 for [4]:-
The first President of the Union was Manuel Guitarte, with Julio Rey Pastor and José G Sortheis as the first vice-presidents. They served from 1936 to 1938 with Alberto González Domínguez and Yanny Frenkel as secretaries and Raquel Simonetti as treasurer.
The Union publishes the Revista de la Unión Matemática Argentina (Journal of the Mathematical Union Argentina). In the first issue, Volume 1 No 1 (1936), they set out the aims of the Argentina Mathematical Union [4]:-
In 1945 the Revista became the Revista de la Unión Matemática Argentina y de la Asociación Física Argentina (Journal of the Argentina Mathematical Union and of the Argentina Physics Association). In 1968 it went back to its original title of Revista de la Unión Matemática Argentina. The number of parts per volume has varied over the years. For example Volume 41 has four parts, two in 1998, and one in each of 1999 and 2000. Volume 43 has a single part dated 2002 but published in 2003. Since 2003, with one exception, there has been one volume per year consisting of two parts published in June and December [4]:-

The first President of the Union was Manuel Guitarte, with Julio Rey Pastor and José G Sortheis as the first vice-presidents. They served from 1936 to 1938 with Alberto González Domínguez and Yanny Frenkel as secretaries and Raquel Simonetti as treasurer.

This Union sets out to foster the evident progress of mathematical investigation in Argentina, by means of scientific meetings, support, etc. and to coordinate the work of diverse groups of scholars who in this country study higher mathematics, and of the dispersed investigators in the Latin nations of America. The increasing production of mathematics by all of them, indicates the purpose of publishing a magazine - that will be the organ of the new organization exclusively devoted to works of higher mathematics and theoretical physics... The enthusiastic support for the initiative on the part of Argentinean mathematicians and the valuable contributions that are arriving from other countries, confirm our faith and stimulate us to devote all our efforts so that our work is fertile and lasting.The first part of the first volume contains, among a number of papers, Métrica e integración en los espacios abstractos by J Rey Pastor who gives his affiliation at Buenos Aires. The second part of the first volume contains, among a number of papers, Hiperconvergencia de las series de Dirichlet cuyos exponentes forman una sucesión de densidad máxima infinita by Sixto Ríos (Madrid) and Algunos complementos a la teoría de límites de las funciones reales en espacios abstractos by J Rey Pastor (Buenos Aires). It is an annual publication of three parts, with the aim of disseminating topics of mathematics and teaching.
