Mathematicians Of The Day
11th February
On this day in 1826, University College of London was founded. It was the first university institution to be founded in London and the first in England to be established on an entirely secular basis, to admit students regardless of their religion and to admit women on equal terms with men. The first professor of mathematics at UCL was Augustus De Morgan.
The postage stamp of one of today's mathematicians at THIS LINK was issued in 2005.

Quotation of the day
From Richard Hamming
Mathematics is an interesting intellectual sport but it should not be allowed to stand in the way of obtaining sensible information about physical processes.
