Mathematicians Of The Day

25th May

On this day in 1842, Johann Doppler presented a lecture to the Royal Bohemian Society on the Doppler Effect. It was first experimentally verified in 1845 using a locomotive drawing an open car with several trumpeters.

The postage stamp of one of today's mathematicians at THIS LINK was issued in 2004.

Quotation of the day

From Raymond Smullyan
