Mathematicians Of The Day

6th June

On this day in 1659, Huygens wrote to Wallis about de Witt:-
In my opinion no century has been so abounding in mathematicians as ours, amongst whom this man even might have reached the first place, if he had been less occupied by his official duties.
The postage stamp of one of today's mathematicians at THIS LINK was issued in 2017.

Quotation of the day

From Regiomontanus
You, who wish to study great and wonderful things, who wonder about the movement of the stars, must read these theorems about triangles. Knowing these ideas will open the door to all of astronomy and to certain geometric problems.
